Sir Isaac Newton believed that the universe could not have been born out of chaos; God must have created it. Now, Britain’s most notable physicist, Stephen Hawking, aims to prove that theory incorrect. “There is no place for God in theories on the creation of the Universe,” he has said.
In “The Grand Design”, a book he’s co-authored with American physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking explores his new idea. He’d formerly argued that the belief in an almighty power and science were not mutually exclusive. Now, he’s convinced that the Big Bang was an inevitable result of the laws of physics: “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something,” he states.
Referring to the 1992 discovery of a planet which orbited a star that was not our Sun, he said: “That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions, the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings.” He continues: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.
In his earlier bestseller, A Brief History of Time, Hawking did not dispute God’s role in the making of the Universe. “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason, for then we should know the mind of God,” he said. His new book, The Grand Design, tells a different story. Partially serialized in the Times, the book is already turning heads. It will be released on September 9th. What do you think?

I don’t presume to tell people what to believe, and given his track record, neither should Hawking. I think it’s a little unfortunate. I also think, as life progresses, and admittedly, although things can be quite dismaying and faith compromising, should we not as adults look to things that reaffirm and give our faith foundation. While he’s searching, he sees things that complicate his earlier beliefs. But faith has nothing to do with sight, brother. So what does he believe in? Wouldn’t it be just like GOD to confound his percieved “wisdom”? And then of all the people he might be leading astray.. based on his “findings” in “fact.” Man, a shaken faith, whatever you believe in; that does not a “peace of mind” make.
No, it does not. I mean, tomorrow he’ll say the “devil” created the world! He should go and sit down and figure out his own, personal, if I might add, soul salvation. Stop writing books that only affirm his ego and pride, based on “fact,” until he has a definitve opinion.. Two books, both published with two opposing views… two opposing theories.. Really?? Really?! Clearly, he’s flawed, like all of us, but yet still indignant enough to say “I’ve found the truth,” “there is no God.” See the issue?? So, there’s -in his mind- no one, no thing greater than he. Yeah, ok. Perhaps I would belive him, if only he had found the “truth” or this “truth,” the first time around. :-/ kicks rocks, homie!
You’re uncovered! Weak and flawed.
“…..choosing the lowly things -and the thins that are not- to nullify the things that are” “choosing also the foolih things of this world to shame the wise.”
lol
We use Microscopes to dig into the and see infinite. The more they learn about the atom, the more complex it becomes.
Why? Finite minds trying to figure out the infinte and then say “I’m the greatest intellect there is!”; And here’s the kicker: apart from the infinite -in this case, non-existing,- it’s impossible!!!
Clearly, with te state of the world, man has messed up a lot of things, and yet……. there’s no God. Well, God help us if that’s true! ;-/ ;-/ :-/
“The foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men”
“the weakness of God is stronger than the “strength” of men”

Certainly I will say that God created the world because he said so. Have you ever read the book of Genisis? Has the BIG BANG THEORY ever said that it created the world? I think not. Why would I trust a man who might chance his mind yet again? AND most importantly, why would I waist my time and money on purchasing his book(s). Each to his or her own (vanity) and “knowledge” and mind changing I suppose…
