US senator John Kerry unveiled a long awaited climate change bill which proposes cutting carbon emissions in the United States by 17% by 2020. Aiming to be the world’s “clean energy leader”, the bill has provision for rules on offshore oil drilling which has become a highly controversial in wake of the recent oil spill off of the Gulf of Mexico.
President Obama has given his backing to the proposed bill. “The challenges we face – underscored by the immense tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico – are reason to redouble our efforts to reform our nation’s energy policies,” Obama said. What do you think?

Not sure what sense it makes to increase energy prices, or uncertainty in energy markets, while the economy is in recovery. it’s clear to me at least that this shit will never get passed, what with the GOP coming back to power and oh yeah global warming being bullshit. Though, i will admit, stronger language like this will have the effect of spurring investment in technologies investors and consumers alike believe will be adopted, either de jure or de facto.
Unfortunately, were not ready to really make the necessary changes. We will late to the very last hour, when we are faced with a global catastrope, just like we did when the banks for crashing. They can propose this…and that…but until we wake up, and start using our own brains again, I’m sorry I just dont see much hope for that kind of change….
