obama middle east PRESIDENT OBAMA| URGES DIRECT TALKS BETWEEN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE

Despite thoughts that there may be tension between the administrations of the US and Israel, President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently engaged in a discussion at the White House.  Netanyahu described it as “high time” for the two to talk.

Although President Obama praised Israel’s decision to ease its blockade of the Gaza Strip, the country hasn’t agreed to continually suspend new construction in the disputed area of the West Bank.  In response, the US is making a firm push for direct peace talks between Israel and Palestine before the current settlement freeze expires this September.

“I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu wants peace, that he’s willing to take risks for peace,” said President Obama.  Yet while the leaders reassured the public that the relationship between Israel and the US remains strong, protesters marched across Lafayette Park demanding that the blockade end and aid to Israel cease  What do you think?
