arizona immigration ARIZONA GOVERNOR| MAKES CHANGES TO IMMIGRATION LAW

Friday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer made changes to the state’s controversial immigration law, stating that the adjustments should calm concerns that the current law encourages racial profiling: “These changes specifically answer legal questions raised by some who expressed fears that the original law would somehow allow or lead to racial profiling. These new amendments make it crystal clear and undeniable that racial profiling is illegal and will not be tolerated in Arizona.”

However, opponents of the law challenge Brewer by claiming that under increased pressure to identify illegal immigrants, the police will act off of mere suspicions.  Dan Pochoda, the legal director of the Arizona ACLU said of the Governor’s adjustments, “It doesn’t deter anything.  It’s not a serious hurdle.”  He also noted that the original authors of the law approved of the changes.

The Arizona law requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect they are in the United States illegally. What do you think?

This is sad that we still have to deal with things like this, especially with bigger issues going on in the world; there was a bomb attempt in NYC and it was not aimed at a particular group of people. When will people realize we are all the same!
