According to a press release from Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl, YouTube has paid out $1 billion dollars in ad revenue to the music industry in the last 12 months. YouTube predicts even more growth in the future, citing more digital-advertising revenues on the horizon. Kyncl believes that ‘In the future, the music business has an opportunity to look a lot like television. Where subscriptions and advertising contribute roughly equal amounts of revenue, bolstered by digital and physical sales.’ Demonstrating that multiple experiences and models can succeed alongside each other, YouTube is a new new source of revenue for the music industry that is poised to dramatically increase.
