December 9, 2013 The Unbiased Writer

Many musicians struggle to establish their identity, unremittingly trying new styles to perfect their craft. As the music scene evolves and heads in a new direction, there are a handful of up and coming artists who understand that; Stason Bobo is one. Hailing out Jonesboro, Arkansas, Stason Bobo fell in love with music after being introduced to the guitar by his father at age 13. From here on Stason moved to California and joined multiple bands as well as went on tour as the lead singer; Rob the Cartel and NOISE. Stason has since moved and now resides in the concrete jungle, New York City, where he is working on his first solo EP “My Body, Your Canvas.”  Unbiased Writer recently had the opportunity to sit down with the upcoming singer/songwriter to chat about his inspirations, biggest musical influences, and new single ‘Black and Blue.’  You can check out our exclusive interview with Stason Bobo along with his new track below:

Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
A: Of course! I am a Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist/Pianist Born in Arkansas, Raised in Oklahoma and based out of Brooklyn. Music is my life in every aspect. It surrounds and affects me in every way imaginable. It excites me, calms me, angers me. It controls me in it’s best way.

Q: What made you want to do this?
A: Well, I’ve always been into music because my mother always sang to me, so I got my voice from her. But what really made me pursue this as a career was my father that I met for the first time when I was thirteen years old. He inspired me to pick up the guitar and play because he was a guitarist himself. He also tried to make this into a career but sadly, did not succeed. So, to honor him and his footstep, I follow his passion and dreams to succeed and to live the life he always wanted.

Q: Who would you say are some of your biggest musical influences?
A: I’m really into the whole British and Irish scene. So, A few of my musical influences branch from British and Irish musicians such as Mumford and sons, Adele, Alex Clare, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran infused with a bit of my Jazzy-ish background . Another big influence is from Former N’ Sync vocalist Justin Timberlake. His influence has also got me to venture of into dancing as well as singing. Don’t get me wrong, I like everything from metal to country. But the influences my songs are derived from are Pop-Rock and Folk Based

Q: what can our readers expect to see from you in 2014?
A: I will be working on the rest of my EP, “My Body, Your Canvas.” My Goal for 2014 is to tour the U.S. at least and hopefully if everything blows up like I’m hoping, Possibly even a European Tour as well.

Q: How do you describe your music to people?
A: Fun, easy listening and above all, INSPIRATIONAL. I write my songs based on real life events from mine own personal life to everyone else’s hardships. For example, the new song I just finished writing is called “NEW YORK WINTER.” It’s creation is inspired by a homeless woman I always pass by on my way home from the subway. My creativity feeds off everything around me and makes something beautiful out of it all.
