The Roots’ long-delayed album “How I Got Over” will now be released June 8 under Def Jam according to drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. “How I Got Over” was originally expected to be released last June, but was pushed back because the Roots kept recording new material. “Since March, I think we have about 723 jams in the can,” Thompson told Billboard Magazine last October. “There is a difference between a performance if you play with musicians that are in sync rather than doing it isolated and alone — there’s just a different energy when we do it this way.” The track list for the album has yet to be announced.
In other news, tickets are now on sale for the third Roots Picnic, to be held June 5 at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier. The Roots will perform alongside Vampire Weekend, Clipse and a special, as-yet-unannounced reunion from a legendary hip-hop group. Tickets for Roots Picnik What do you think?
