The traditional red carpet was replaced with a crochet lawn for the London premiere of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. Despite a heavy downpour, the entire cast, including Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and newcomer Mia Wasikowksa (who stars as Alice) turned out with filmmaker Tim Burton to celebrate the opening of the film. The event was also a benefit for the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts.
When asked about the film, which is his sixth collaboration with Burton, Johnny Depp stated, “There’s something that works when we hit the trenches together; it hasn’t changed in all these years. Every time I get the phone call from Tim, I’m overjoyed.” Audiences everywhere are eager to see Tim Burton’s interpretation of the classic story, which hits the silver screen on Friday. Yet whether or not the fans approve, the London premiere was an admirable tribute to the celebrated author Lewis Carroll, who was an Englishman himself. What do you think?
