‘Black Swan,’ director Darren Aronofsky’s new psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman (who plays a ballerina) Vincent Cassel, and Winona Ryder, will open the Venice Film Festival this September. Aronofsky garnered lots of attention and won the top prize of the festival, the Golden Lion, in ’08 with The Wrestler.
His new film is about a rivalry between two dancers at a competitive ballet company in New York. Aronofsky expressed a kind sentiment in regards to the festival’s choice: “the cast and crew of Black Swan are both excited and humbled by the selection committee’s invitation.”
The Venice Film Festival takes place from September 1st-11th, but the full line up will not be announced until later this month. We do know however, that the judging will be led by Quentin Tarantino, a director with a very unique perspective. It should be interesting to see which films take home a prize. What do you think?
