Philadelphia-based American DJ/ producer Diplo recently announced the release date for his upcoming ‘Express Yourself‘ EP, as well as release the second offering from the project, ‘Set It Off.’ The EP will be released June 12th, and will be Diplo’s first compilation release since his 2004 ‘Florida’ album. The project is said to reflect the producer’s extensive forte of genres ranging from Dancehall to New Orleans Bounce to Electronic Dance Music. In celebration of last weekend’s opening of the Tokyo Hotaru Arts Festival, 100,000 LED lights were sent floating down the Sumida River. The light display was inspired by the now scarce fireflies (“hotaru” in Japanese) that use to illuminate the river at night. Named ‘Prayer Stars,’ the solar-powered lights were designed by Panasonic to activate when they come in contact with water. Check out the images below, and as always, let us know what you think!

The Social Network’s writer Aaron Sorkin, has officially been confirmed via a press release that he will be writing the Steve Jobs biopic for Sony Pictures. The adaptation for the big screen will be based on ‘Steve Jobs,’ a biography written by Walter Isaacson. Unfortunately, no additional details have been confirmed. Yesterday, President Obama welcomed the LA Galaxy to the White House for a special event to congratulate the team for winning the 2011 Major League Soccer Cup Championship. Lead by one of soccer’s biggest stars, David Beckham, the team had a successful year going undefeated at home all season.“So everyone who’s a part of this club — the staff, the players, the fans back in L.A. — together you pulled off one of the toughest feats in team sports:  You lived up to the hype.  You combined star power, hard work; it paid off,” President Obama said. The President then went on to crack a few jokes with David Beckham which can be seen in the video below. After the ceremony was over, David Beckham and the team answered questions from young soccer players as part of a Let’s Move! event encouraging kids to take up sports as part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Last week, we had the opportunity to check out Shepard Fairey’s latest exhibition, ‘Harmony & Discord’ at Pace Prints in NYC. The exhibition featured all new works created by Shepard Fairey at Pace Editions studios in New York. ‘Harmony & Discord‘ references the global dichotomy of politics; what forces it creates on the grand scale and how that reflects on the actions and awareness of the individual. The exhibition will run until June 16th at Pace Prints gallery in NYC. In case you can’t make it, we have a full video recap from the exhibition below. American electropop band Passion Pit have revealed the tracklisting for their upcoming new album, ‘Gossamer.’ The follow-up to their 2009 debut, ‘Gossamer‘ will feature 12 tracks and is expected to be released on July 23rd. Passion Pit recently posted their first single from the upcoming album, ‘Take A Walk‘ online which can be streamed below. In related news, the band will be touring North America this summer and is expected to make appearances at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival as well. Los Angeles-based architect Frank Gehry recently finished his latest project, ‘Opus Hong Kong,’ a luxury residential building built on top of a winding hillside road. The building is comprised of 12 residential units and 10 custom apartments, each occupying an entire floor with unprecedented 360° views of Hong Kong. In addition, the tower features two double-level garden suites with private swimming pools on the lower levels. The exterior of the building is composed almost entirely of glass creating a unique contrast with the lush green landscape surrounding the property. When asked about the project, Frank Gehry said the following, ‘I designed the building for Hong Kong, to respond to the unique conditions of the city. American artist Tom Sachs and Nike sportswear have teamed up to create ‘NIKEcraft,’ a collection of outerwear and accessories for Nike based on Sachs‘ ‘Space Program: Mars‘ project. Utilizing materials from spacesuits, airbags, and boat sails, the collection is comprised of: the ‘mars yard shoe’, the ‘trench’, the ‘marsfly jacket’, and the ‘lightweight tote.’ Sachs designed each piece of the collection with a unique feature that would be useful on a hypothetical voyage through space. Even though the 2012 Coachella Music Festival wrapped a few weeks ago, the dates coinciding with next year’s festival have been revealed. Similar to last year, the 2013 Coachella Music Festival will span over two weekends: April 12-14th and April 19-21th. In addition, pre-sale tickets will be available this Thursday via Coachella‘s website.
