Pharrell recently sat down with the folks at GQ to discuss a variety of topics, including his new gig as consultant for the upcoming Oscars, and  his upcoming fashion endeavors. In addition, Mr. Williams spoke with GQ about his joint album with Lupe Fiasco, as well as his recent feature on Rick Ross’ latest mixtape ‘Rich Forever.’ The entire conversation with Pharrell Williams can be read at GQ, while a small preview can be read below. GQ: You and Hans Zimmer are the music consultants for the Oscars. What does that job entail?

Pharrell: We have to reinterpret some of the music for the nominees. We have to do other music as well that is at times new and original and at others borrowing from movie scenes.

GQ: On Rick Ross’ Rich Forever mixtape you rap, “Black boy scoring his life/ I’m scoring the Oscars.” How excited are you for this opportunity—especially since you’re still essentially a music nerd from Virginia who made it big.

Pharrell: I’m just very thankful. And I say that a lot because that’s the most important message. I answer questions the best I can. But most of the answers usually feel the same. And that’s just me being very appreciative of the opportunity, because, like you said, I’m from Virginia Beach, VA. I’m glad that I can exhibit what we can do.

GQ: Lupe Fiasco recently announced that you’re working on an album together? You two and Kanye West were working on a project once upon a time, too, your crazy schedules interfered. Think this one will pan out?

Pharrell: I can’t talk about that. Lupe is my man and whatever we’re talking about we can’t really discuss and get into right now. We’re talking about some very interesting things.

GQ: Well, let’s talk about something that’s done and out now: Jay-Z’s “Glory.” You produced it. What did it mean to you to assist in making a song for Jay’s first born? It’s like rap’s “Isn’t She Lovely.”

Pharrell: Uh, that was awesome. But again, that was another covert operation.

GQ: Did you guys record that in the hours after his daughter was born or was it recorded in advance? Obviously, her first cries were added after she was born.
Pharrell: That was, uh… That was, um… Everything was by design. That’s all I’ll say.

Over the last couple years, newcomer Toro Y Moi has been a major force in shaping the hazed out electronic sounds that have been pushed to the forefront of the music industry. However, back in 2009, Toro Y Moi had a slightly different, lo-fi guitar infused sound. As part of a special treat for his fans, Toro Y Moi will release a 10-song 7″ vinyl box set project titled, ‘June 2009,’ on April 24th via Carpark Records. Fifteen years ago, MasterCard, Visa and Europay introduced EMV technology to help make credit cards more secure. However, the technology never really caught on in the US until now? In a recent press release, MasterCard, revealed they have created a plan to help usher in the EMV era which could potential be the end of the magnetic strip. EMV technology is far more fraud-resistant because each transaction is authenticated dynamically using cryptographic algorithms and a user-specific PIN. Mastercard plans to take part in building out the EMV infrastructure by April of next year, and have its secure e-payment system functioning at ATMs. More details will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, let us know what you think?

According to reports, M.I.A. confirmed earlier today on BCC radio show that she will indeed accompany Madonna, alongside Nicki Minaj, for a special halftime performance. In addition, M.I.A. revealed her latest track “Bad Girls,” in preparation of the release of her much-anticipated upcoming studio album. Artistic duo Tim Noble and Sue Webster have made an art out of making garbage look good. Taking ordinary things, usually discarded objects and scraps, Tim and Sue transform them into recognizable images through the use of projected shadows. After their first solo show in London, entitled ‘British Rubbish,’ in 1996, Tim and Sue gained international recognition for their art.

Throughout their careers, they have played with the idea of how humans perceive abstract images and define them with meaning. The result is surprising and powerful, as it redefines how abstract forms can transform into figurative ones.

The duo’s artwork has been exhibited at Rockefeller Plaza, Artis-François Pinault (France), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles), and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York). Check out their work below, and as always, let us know what you think?
