Microsoft magnate and renowned philanthropist Bill Gates has launched a $1 billion USD fund to help tackle climate change. With a team of investors whose net worth is around $170 billion USD, Breakthrough Energy Ventures has backers that include Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos, Virgin’s Richard Branson and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani. Created to help boost green technology and scientific breakthroughs geared towards reducing emissions, the newly formed venture will tackle everything from transportation to agriculture. Over a 20 year period, Gates hopes the fund will make a real difference towards climate change and further highlight his commitment to clean tech.
