In collaboration with the developers of Essex Crossing, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh announced that it will open a satellite location in New York’s Lower East Side. While discussing the site, Museum Director Eric Shiner states the New York location will provide ‘ a chance to exhibit more of the collection to a wider, more international audience, and to encourage more people to come to Pittsburgh to see everything we have as well.’ The plan for the New York Warhol museum is part of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area (SPURA), a long inactive initiative that hopes to completely transform downtown Manhattan. Although construction has yet to begin, Essex Crossing’s developers hope to open the museum within its mixed residential/commercial space by 2017.
