long-island-residence_101015_02Located approximately twenty-five miles from the heart of Manhattan, CDR Studio Architects recently renovated a home from 1961 in Long Island, New York. Situated in a rural community on the edge of the Long Island Sound, the house is located in prime location for daily commuters seeking to escape the city’s fast pace. The goal of the project was to both preserve and refine the existing dwelling while creating something modern and refreshing. The exterior skin of the house was stripped back to its framing, which was then altered to expand openings within the design and create a new roof line. On the inside, structural alterations were made which included the removal of a wall separating the kitchen from the main living area to open up the layout.
