BRAZIL’S 2016 OLYMPIC VILLAGE FOCUSES ON SUSTAINABILITY

Inspired by the rain forest, Brazil’s 2016 Olympic Village serves a greater purpose as it will be replaced with more needed buildings once the games are over. There has long since been a heated debate over whether or not countries benefit from the infrastructure they build to host the Olympics. The British firm AECOM, was the winner of the competition to design Brazil’s Olympic village which will contain “five ‘villages’ inspired by rare flora found in the Atlantica rain forests.
After the games, most of the Olympic infrastructure will be removed for new development that will focus on sustainability and preserving the lagoon around which the Olympics are being held. The nature-inspired Olympic‘s design will offer something more to look forward to from these games than just the competition.
