According to reports, David Bowie’s personal art collection will be auctioned off this November by Sotheby’s. The public for the first time will be able to view the collection from November 1st-10th at New Bond Street galleries in London. Comprised of over 267 works from artist like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Damien Hirst, the auction is expected to fetch more than $13.2 million. A spokesperson for Bowie’s estate said:
David’s art collection was fueled by personal interest and compiled out of passion. He always sought and encouraged loans from the collection and enjoyed sharing the works in his custody. Though his family are keeping certain pieces of particular personal significance, it is now time to give others the opportunity to appreciate – and acquire – the art and objects he so admired.
